Taste is operational.

Taste is not the decoration applied after the hard decisions. It is the method used to make them.

Taste is often treated as an instinct that arrives at the end of a project, once structure, requirements and delivery have already been decided. That is too late. Taste is useful precisely when the answer is not obvious.

It determines what deserves attention, which constraint is real and which one is inherited theatre. It identifies the element that should disappear before another component is designed to explain it.

In product work, taste becomes operational when it can be articulated. A direction is not strong because one person likes it. It is strong because every visual and functional choice supports the same argument.

Tools will keep changing. The responsibility to make a coherent decision does not.
